Camping Information

Big Bend CampgroundThe Moab Field Office maintains 25 campgrounds for your enjoyment. While we do not take individual campsite reservations, visitors can usually be accommodated at one of our campgrounds. Many of the campgrounds are located close to Arches National Park along the Colorado River. These campgrounds offer views of spectacular red rock cliffs amidst a green ribbon of vegetation. Several of the campgrounds are particularly suited to even the largest Recreational Vehicles. These RV friendly campgrounds include Ken’s Lake, Hittle Bottom, Goose Island, Goldbar, Horsethief, and Big Bend. Five of our campgrounds feature reservable group sites suitable for gatherings. Drinking water is not available at most of the campgrounds, however it is available at Lions Park, which is at the intersection of Highways 191 and 128 two miles north of Moab.  The water is located by the pedestrian bridge dedication plaque.

Campgrounds are found along Highways 128, 313 and 279, on the Kane Creek Road, at Ken’s Lake, in the Canyon Rims Recreation Area, and in the Sand Flats Recreation Area.

Strategy for finding a campsite on Moab BLM

The campgrounds that are the nearest to Moab generally fill first, especially during April, May and October. For instance, if you want to choose one of the 11 BLM campgrounds along Highway 128, the first one, Goose Island, will usually fill first. . . then they will fill in progression up the highway, going away from Moab. The last campground up Highway 128 (and the one furthest from Moab), Dewey Bridge, fills only rarely. Campgrounds such as Windwhistle and Hatch Point, two others that are further from Moab, are seldom full. If you want a campground near Moab during spring or fall weekends, it is advisable to arrive by noon on the Friday of that weekend or even earlier. Another choice is Horsethief Campground (on Highway 313). This large and spacious campground generally has lots of room for everyone. It normally only fills during spring and fall weekends, usually by about 4 p.m.  In addition to these, Moab also has 13 commercial campgrounds:  http://discovermoab.com/campgrounds_private.htm
