National Landscape Conservation System

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) oversees the National Landscape Conservation System (NLCS), which is an organized system of National Conservation Areas, National Historic Trails, National Monuments, Wild and Scenic Rivers, Wilderness Areas, and Wilderness Study Areas (WSAs).

NLCS units managed by the Moab Field Office are:

• National Historic Trails - A segment of The Old Spanish National Historic Trail runs through the area.
• Wild and Scenic Rivers - There are twelve river segments managed by the field office that are suitable for designation as Wild and Scenic Rivers.
• Wilderness Study Areas - The Moab Field Office manages ten WSAs.
• Black Ridge Canyons Wilderness Area
