Camping

There are currently just two developed campgrounds managed by the Kanab Field Office -- the Ponderosa Grove Campground located near the Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park, and the White House Campground near the Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness Area.

Ponderosa Grove Campground

Ponderosa Grove campsiteThis campground is located near the north side of Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park off Highway 89 on the Hancock Road, and is accessed by paved roads between Kanab and Mt. Carmel Junction.   Ponderosa Grove is about 15 miles from Kanab, and provides a cool scenic locale to travelers, ATV enthusiasts, campers and family gatherings.  You can get there by taking Highway 89 north from Kanab for 7.25 miles, turn left on Hancock Road and continue along this paved road for 7.5 miles to the BLM marker identifying the campground.  This semi-primitive campground consists of nine (9) individual campsites, with a picnic table, concrete fire ring and a barbecue grill.  In addition, the campground has pit toilets.  Please note:  there is no water available at the campground.  Campers should bring their own water or obtain it from the Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park.  There is a fee of $5.00 per site per night.  This campground is provided for your enjoyment, so please observe the following:


• No ATV use inside the campground.
• Visitors are encouraged to bring their own firewood.  No fires outside of the concrete fire ring.  No tree cutting for firewood.
• ATV use nearby is limited to existing roads, trails and dunes.  No ATV's are authorized to ride on Hancock Road.  Access to the dunes is prohibited by an emergency closure along the south edge of the Hancock Road. 
• Please deposit your trash in the provided trash receptacles.  In addition, remove any flagging, paper plates or cairns with which you've identified your gathering.

White House Campground

White House campgroundLocated approximately two miles south of Highway 89 and east of the Paria Contact Station, the White House Campground also serves as the trailhead for hikers entering the Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness.  Besides a gravel parking area, it consists of five designated campsites and two pit toilets.  Campsites have tables, grills and fire grates.  There is no water or electric hook-ups.  Cost per site is $5.00 per night.
