The Kanab Field Office is located in the south central section on the Utah-Arizona border, near Lake Powell and Arizona’s Grand Canyon. Set in the heart of the Grand Circle of scenic National Parks, National Monuments, and State Parks, the Kanab Field Office is patterned by towering sandstone formations, scenic slot canyons, colorful sand dunes, rolling sagebrush, pinyon-juniper expanses, and patches of ponderosa pine and Douglas fir.
East of Kanab are the stately Vermilion Cliffs that run northward through open country. The Paria River cuts through the Vermilion Cliffs traveling through the Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness Area on the Utah-Arizona border. Backpackers, who visit this area hike through narrow, twisting canyons of the Paria River. The stark, salmon-color hills north of Kanab are the Coral Pink Sand Dunes. The few juniper trees growing nearby take on a surrealistic appearance in the evening light.
Pioneer history, cowboy traditions, archeological treasures, desert sunsets, and colorful landscapes entrap anyone who ventures in. Whether you are here to hike, hunt, photograph the unique geologic formations, or simply to enjoy the scenery or find solitude, we invite you to discover this special place in southwestern Utah.
