Planning Area Map

The Cottonwood Field Office covers 132,526 acres of BLM-administered land in Latah, Clearwater, Nez Perce, Lewis, Idaho, and Adams counties in north-central Idaho. This acreage figure reflects the recent transfer of approximately 11,304 acres of public land to the Bureau of Indian Affairs to be held in trust for the benefit of the Nez Perce Tribe. The transfer of this public land was made in accordance with the Snake River Water Rights Act of 2004 (Settlement Act), Public Law 108-447, Division J, Title X, Section 6.

Much of the BLM-administered land consists of scattered tracts intermingled with State of Idaho, private, Nez Perce Tribe, and National Forest lands; however, RMP decisions will only apply to public land administered by BLM within the counties listed above (see map).

Project Photos

Public uses of BLM-administered lands in the Planning Area include recreational boating, fishing, hunting, camping, off-highway vehicle driving, grazing, mining, and logging. The Cottonwood Field Office lands provide habitat for a wide variety of wildlife and fish, while playing an important role in providing clean water and air and the protection of cultural resources.
