Abstract:
The Special Management Designations are depicted on Map 2.3 and described in the Proposed Management Plan (PMP)/Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) for the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument (GSENM). These areas include recreation areas, outstanding natural areas, historic sites, petrified wood areas, and research natural areas that were existing prior to designation of the Monument.
Purpose:
This data set was prepared for use in the GSENM resource management planning process.

The data has been vertically integrated to the Utah - Bureau of Land Management Geographic Coordinate Database (GCDB) and to 1:24,000 scale DLG base data, including transportation, hydrology, and powerlines where appropriate. Overall horizontal accuracy for this data is not greater than national mapping accuracy standards (NMAS) for USGS source maps. Snapping and coordinate shift tolerances were maintained at 0.01 meters or less throughout editing. Horizontal positional accuracy for the digital data set was tested by visual comparison of the source data with hard copy verification plots.
