Abstract:
This dataset represents the boundaries of Congressionally designated wilderness. Note that the Cedar Mountain Wilderness Area boundary is preliminary, per the congressional designation. A more accurate boundary is currently being collected and when available, will replace the premliminary boundary.
Purpose: This theme identifies Congressionally designated wilderness.
Supplemental_Information:
Wilderness boundaries are established as a result of congressional legislation, and may involve cadastral survey. The most common method of input for this data set is by manuscripting onto a map base (either paper or on-screen with DRG or DOQ backdrop) Congress traditionally has used the following setback standards for wilderness from the centerline of existing boundary roads: high standard roads such as paved highways - 300 feet (91.5 meters); high standard logging-type road - 100 feet (30.48 meters); jeep roads or other dirt roads - 30 feet (9.15 meters).

This data should never be used at a scale larger than 1:24,000. The data and corresponding attributes are only as accurate as the source from which they were obtained, and may vary depending upon the date and method of acquisition. This data is suitable for regional planning, management decision support at intermediate scales, i.e. 1:24,000 or smaller, and cartographic purposes. The data is not suitable for purposes of navigation. This data is not suitable for analysis at scales larger than 1:24,000. If the Receiving Agency (RA) has modified the data in any way, they are obligated to describe the types of modifications they have performed on hardcopy maps utilizing the data. RA specifically agrees not to misrepresent USO data sets nor to imply that any changes made were approved by BLM USO. No warranty is made by the BLM for use of the data for purposes not intended by BLM. This information may be updated without notification.
The boundary for the Cedar Mountain Wilderness is a preliminary representation of the boundary shown on the legislative map that accompanied the bill. An official, more accurate boundary is currently being collected and described, and when it is available, it will replace the preliminary boundary. Until then, all maps created with this layer are to have the following disclaimer in the legend of the map: "The boundary depicted for the Cedar Mountain Wilderness is a preliminary representation until an official map is completed."
