Description
Abstract
This dataset depicts the cooperative interagency 1:24,000 scale land ownership status for the State of Utah. Administrative ownership polygons are updated by The State of Utah School and Institutional Trust Lands Administration (SITLA) and the United States Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Salt Lake City office on a regular basis.
Revisions are posted monthly.
This data was originally digitized for the 1993 U. S. Fish and Wildlife Utah GAP Analysis project by the Remote Sensing and GIS Laboratories, Department of Geography and Earth Resources, Utah State University (RSGIS/USU).
Maintenance of this data layer is performed by a cooperative federal and state effort. The Utah School and Institutional Trust Lands Administration (SITLA) revises this data regularly to reflect changes in State Trust Lands, other State Land and Private Land as needed. The BLM revises this data regularly to reflect changes in Federal Land as needed. Other information is edited and updated as needed but not on a regular schedule.
Purpose
For regional analysis and display at 1:24,000.
Supplementary Information
Procedures_Used: Digitized from paper 1:100,000 USGS quad maps using ARCEDIT. The data were merged to form one coverage when all the quads were complete.
Revisions: School and Institutional Trust Lands Administration (SITLA) revises their ownership as needed
Reviews Applied to Data: Datasets were checked against
source documents for line accuracy and visually checked for
attribute accuracy.
Revisions: 2006; Data within this theme is in the proecess of being revised to meet national map accuracy standards for 1:24,000 scale data. Where possible polygons are vertically integrated with GCDB data, other sources include PLSS, 24k DLGs, 100k DLGs.
Revisions: 2006; Data within this theme is in the process of being revised to eliminate the class "Water" and "Intermediate Water". Parcel ownership will reflect physical land ownership where possible. Ownership may not be determined in areas where litigation exists (Along the Green River, parts of the Colorado and other water bodies) Ownership will be updated upon availability of settlement.
Revisions (December 2007): Cedar Mountain Wilderness Area added.
The Cedar Mountain Wilderness Area boundary is preliminary, per the congressional designation.
A more accurate boundary is currently being collected and when available, will replace the preliminary boundary.

Federal Data Integration: 2005-2006 The purpose of this data integration was
to incorporate updated federal land ownership into the existing dataset and to
standardize statewide editing/ updating practices to ensure for the most
accurate, up-to-date contiguous landownership dataset available to the State of
Utah. The process involved an integration of the Salt Lake, Vernal and Cedar
City BLM field offices federal ownership data with the existing statewide land
ownership layer (housed at SITLA). The integration was performed at the Cedar
City field office. The BLM field office parcels are vertically integrated with
GCDB line work where possible, although not completely. Efforts will be taken in
the near future to integrate all parcels to GCDB line work as it becomes
available. Please contact Andrew Dubrasky (Andrew_Dubrasky@blm.gov) for more
information about the integration process. Following the integration, a quality
assurance check was performed to ensure accuracy. The Utah State School and
Institutional Trust Lands Administration (SITLA) performed quality checks for
all State Land, where data was provided. State Land agencies included, the Utah
Division of Wildlife, Utah State Parks, Utah Department of Transportation, Utah
Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands and School and Institutional Trust
Lands Administration. The Salt Lake City Bureau of Land Management office
performed the Federal Land quality check, where data was provided. Federal Land
agencies within the following departments were verified by the BLM; The
Department of Interior, The Department of Defense, and The Department of
Agriculture. Native American Tribal Land has not been verified at this time.
Private/ County ownership has not been verified at this time. Future
verification of private/ county ownership will be performed by the Utah
Automated Geographic Reference Center (AGRC) and edited by SITLA.
