The BLM NEPA Web Guide is an interactive companion to the BLM NEPA Handbook. The Web Guide includes links to official guidance and examples for use in complying with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). Other materials include helpful ideas, tools, and techniques for making the NEPA process more efficient and effective and for adding clarity to the NEPA documents.
The Web Guide generally follows the chapters of the BLM NEPA Handbook, with links to relevant sections of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), the Interior Departmental Manual (DM), and other resources such as the Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ).
The NEPA process is intended to help public officials make decisions that are based on understanding of environmental consequences, and take actions that protect, restore, and enhance the environment. Early chapters in the Handbook and the Web Guide address the legal requirements and our analytical approach to complying with the NEPA. We then explain content requirements of specific types of NEPA compliance documents.
The BLM periodically updates this Handbook through Instruction Memoranda and Information Bulletins, which are available in the Policy and Guidance section of this website.
