<title>Increase in Oil and Gas Drilling Permit Application Fees</title>

The fee took effect November 2; the previous fee was $4,000 per APD. This area is under the fire protection of the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF). <title>BLM Herbicide Plan Available for Public Review</title>

<title>Controlled Burns to Reduce Wildfire Threat</title>

Beginning next week, approximately 2,000 acres of BLM-managed land are planned for underburning near Gerber Reservoir, 12 miles south of Bly.  Another 400 acres of public land located 18 miles northeast of Lakeview are scheduled to be underburned in early October.  Additional debris piles will be burned across the Lakeview District this fall and winter as the weather allows.

<title>Wild Horse Raffle Raises $1,570 for Youth Scholarship Program</title>

Scholarships have been awarded via this program since 1999.  Funding for these academic awards is generated from a wild horse raffle.  Tonya Pinckney, BLM wild horse and burro specialist, initiates the process each February by traveling to Oregon's Wild Horse Corral Facility in Hines, Oregon, to select a foal to be gentled for the fundraising event.  Raffle tickets are sold for $5 apiece by 4-H members and BLM employees at the High Desert Trail Packing Clinic each May and the Klamath County Fair each August.  The official drawing is held on Saturday evening of the Klamath County Fair.

These investments will restore landscapes and habitat, spur renewable energy development on public lands and create jobs.  The $3.5 million is part of the $32.4 million that will fund 60 BLM projects throughout Oregon and Washington.  Overall, the BLM will manage $305 million in investments nationwide as part of the recovery plan signed by the President to jumpstart our economy, create or save jobs, and put a down payment on addressing long-neglected challenges so our country can thrive in the 21st century.

Permits may be obtained at 2795 Anderson Ave., Building 25, in Klamath Falls.  Office hours are 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.  The cost is $5 per cord.  There is a two-cord minimum purchase for every transaction and a maximum of eight cords may be bought per household each year. Approximately 1,000 acres of public land in the vicinity of Picture Rock Pass have been identified for juniper thinning.  A draft treatment plan has been prepared for this project that addresses: (1) intended vegetation treatment methods, (2) anticipated benefits for mule deer, sage-grouse and fire resilient plant communities, and (3) follow-up restoration action to be taken.
