The original Bald Lick Timber Sale was offered for sale in September of 2005; protests were received.  Prospective purchasers chose not to bid on the timber sale.  The Bald Lick Timber Sale Notice was rescinded, nullifying all protests.  Since that time, there has been ongoing dialogue with those living in the vicinity of the Bald Lick Landscape Project Area to make progress towards designing a timber sale that would be more socially acceptable while meeting BLM's resource objectives as documented in the Bald Lick EA.  The newly designed timber sale, which is a much smaller subset of this original project will be offered for sale.  A Notice of Sale for the redesigned Bald Lick Timber Sale will be published in Medford's Mail Tribune Newspaper on or around October 21, 2009.  The publication of the first Notice of Sale for the Bald Lick Project establishes the effective date of the decision, for the purpose of initiating a protest period, for those portions of the Bald Lick project to be implemented through a timber sale. The DMS project is a proposal to 1/ thin approximately 204 acres of 67-year-old timber stands in the Matrix and Riparian Reserve Land Use Allocations;  2/ renovate and maintain approximately 1.5 miles of existing roads; and 3/ fell two green trees per acre for coarse woody debris.  The fish passage project is a proposal to replace two culverts on Road No. 4-5E-3 to restore fish passage.
