Who Owns and Manages the Table Rocks? The Table Rocks are cooperatively owned and managed by the Medford District of the Bureau of Land Management, the Nature Conservancy, and the Rogue River Ranch. Bureau of Land Management
The Table Rocks are managed by the Butte Falls Resource Area, within the Medford District BLM. In 1984 the BLM recognized the important natural and cultural resources of the area and designated 1,280 acres on Upper and Lower Table Rocks as an Area of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC). This designation helps to protect the biologic, geologic, historic, and scenic values of the Table Rocks. The Nature ConservancyThe Nature Conservancy is a private, non-profit, international organization, whose mission is to preserve the plants, animals, and plant communities that represent the diversity of life on Earth by protecting the land and waters they need to survive. The Conservancy began protection efforts on Lower Table Rock in 1978, and currently manages 1,881 acres there. To contact the Nature Conservancy in Oregon, click here. The Rogue River Ranch
Cattle at the Rogue River Ranch. The Rogue River Ranch is a private producer of purebred breeding cattle. The ranch, centered in Sams Valley on Table Rock Road, owns portions of both Table Rocks. Through a conservation agreement with The Nature Conservancy, the Rogue River Ranch has chosen not to graze cattle on their Lower Table Rock property. The ranch supports use of the Table Rocks by graciously allowing the public on their land. The characteristic red roofed barns of the ranch can be seen below from both summits. Rogue River Ranch |
