I am a sparrow-sized plain gray bird with paler underpants and a small crest. I have a harsh, fussy see-dee-dee or chick-a-dee-dee call.

I live in the Oak Savanna, Chaparral and Mixed Woodland communities on Table Rocks.

I am a conspicuous bird. I make lots of noise as I feed among bushes or high in the spring growth of freshly sprouted oaks. I can lay five to eight white eggs, with brown spots, in tree cavities. The cavity nest is composed of grasses, fur, and some feathers.
