As you travel the 172 mile-long Rogue-Umpqua Scenic Byway, stop for a picnic at one of the three Gold Nugget Waysides to learn about the history of the area. A short foot trail along the Rogue River connects the lower and middle waysides. Interpretive displays at the middle site provide information about the gold panning history of the area, geology, the native Takelma, and the scenic byway. Overnight camping is not allowed in the waysides or surrounding area: the nearest campground is located in Gold Hill.
