Areas of Critical Environmental Concern
Areas of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC) are areas of land where the BLM has determined that special management attention is required because of the quality, uniqueness, and importance of their natural and cultural resources. Each ACEC aims to protect and/or prevent irreparable damage to specific values. Specific values within ACECs include, but are not limited to, botanical, ecological, geological, cultural, wildlife, and scenic values. The BLM manages about 200 ACECs in Oregon and Washington totaling over 800,000 acres.
