Dear BLM: With respect to the WOPR: We expect BLM to produce a WOPR that has strong scientific research supporting its provisions, such that the WOPR will withstand legal challenge.  We do not think that this is in fact the case. We are deeply concerned about the serious economic impact on Benton County and Western Oregon, not to mention the timber industry in Western Oregon, if the WOPR is successfully challenged in court. We are especially concerned, given the widespread negative review by reputable scientists of the WOPR's environmental claims of no serious environmental impact.  Finally, with regards to Mary's Peak in Benton County, we note that the WOPR proposes removal of some existing ACEC designation on the mountain.  This is not justified, given that the highest and best use of that land from an economic standpoint is to enhance its attractiveness as an outstanding area of natural and cultural interest, so close to a large population center.  Leave all existing ACECs on the mountain, and add the ACECs proposed by the Friends of Mary's Peak in prior communication. Regards, Frank Hall President, Friends of Mary's Peak
