To decision makers at the BLM, I want to express my concern with the Western Oregon Plan Revisions. The current proposal will do more harm and should not be accepted. The focus on increased old growth logging will harm the ecosystem, create more controversy and conflict, and do little to reduce fire danger. And most importantly, it is a step backward in the most important challenge of our generation, reducing CO2 emissions to combat global warming. The worst policy I can imagine at this time is to increase clearcutting, increase OHV use, and increase logging roads. Our children will ask us how we could let this happen. How could we put short term economic interests of a few over the long term interests of everyone? Instead of molding policy to satisfy the logging and timber companies, I urge you to place topmost priority on protecting old growth forests, thinning second growth tree plantations, and protecting communities from fire. The science of climate change makes it clear that we need to reduce our CO2 emissions immediately. I urge you open your eyes, think of what is happening in your lifetime, and make decisions that benefit your children. This is a seminal moment in history, where every decision is important. Please reject the WOPR. Sincerely, Jay Almarode 338 East Butler Lane Ashland, OR 97520
