Introduction
In 1997, the Lakeview Resource Area
completed its third, 5-year plan evaluation, which identified several
issues needing to be addressed in a future Resource Management Plan (RMP).
These included: designation and management of special management areas
such as areas of critical environmental concern (ACECs), wild and scenic
rivers, significant caves, and important cultural areas, road management,
and land tenure adjustments. Since that time, an inventory of
potential ACECs has been completed. This inventory included
preparation of a separate, multi-district evaluation of a large area
referred to as the proposed Pronghorn ACEC which was completed in
1999. An inventory of potentially eligible wild and scenic rivers
was completed in 1999. This planning effort incorporated a Sub-Basin
Review process which collaboratively analyzed resource conditions at a
sub-basin scale. A document summarizing the
Analysis of the Management
Situation and Sub-Basin Review Process was completed in 2000.
The Draft RMP and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) was released for
public review in November 2000. The Proposed RMP/Final EIS was released
in January 2003. The Oregon/Washington State Director approved the
Lakeview RMP on November 14, 2003. The Record of Decision and
approved RMP was published in January 2004. The approved RMP and all of the
supporting documents can be viewed from the
