Fees, Hours of Operation, & Group Scheduling

To assist in planning your tour of the Interpretive Center:

  1. The Center is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (Pacific Time), April through October. The remainder of the year, the Center is open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Pacific Time). The Center is closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day.
  2. Fees: Commercial tour groups are $5.00 per person (one guide and one driver/coach are free). We accept cash, checks, money orders, traveler's checks, or Visa or MasterCard. No foreign currency accepted. No Federal Passes are honored when participating in a commercial tour group.

  3. The Center's facilities meet ADA standards.
  4. The exhibits are self-guided and include interactive displays and several short interpretive videos. Plan a minimum of one hour to thoroughly tour the exhibits. Plan additional time if your group will take in a theater program or outdoor event.
  5. The Center has 4.2 miles of interpretive trails. Should your group tour walk down to the wagon ruts, plan an additional one hour and 45 minutes round-trip for the hike. Appropriate attire (sturdy shoes, rain gear, sunscreen, etc.) and water bottles/canteens are recommended.
  6. Lodging and lunch facilities are available in Baker City, about five miles from the Center. For more information, contact Baker County Visitors and Convention Bureau (1-800-523-1235).
  7. No food or drink is permitted inside the Center. Vending machines are available at the picnic shelter during summer months. Smoking is prohibited on-site, except in enclosed vehicles.
  8. Pets are not permitted in the Center or at the history sites. Elsewhere on the site, pets must be leashed and attended at all times; owners are responsible for pick-up and proper disposal of pet waste.
  9. Please contact the Center as soon as you know dates and times of your school or commercial tour group visit (541-523-1843). If you anticipate that your group may arrive more than 20 minutes earlier or later than originally scheduled, please call us as far in advance as possible. If you find it necessary to cancel or change the date of your group's visit, please advise us.
