Note* There are two versions of the FOI dataset. This metadata describes the publication version which contains a scaled back set of attributes. Contact the Distributor if the full version of FOI is needed.

    The ES field is a concatenated field of timber type. Codes are described in the foicodv2.htm file located on the BLM FTP site at ftp://ftp.or.blm.gov/gisweb/metadata/foicodv2.htm.   To describe an example like FCO D4-1800//H3D3=1940:  The "FCO" part of the example contains the cover condition.  Following next is the alpha numeric codes that describe the species, size class and stocking level of the overstory dominant species, the dominant understory, and the secondary understory.  The "D4" is the Dominant Species code (LF), plus Dominant Species Size Code (LG).  (In this example "D4" would translate to Douglas-fir, large saw timber 21+inches DBH.)  The "-" symbol describes the Dominant Species stocking class code (SEC).  The "1800" is the overstory year of origin, or Birthdate (DK).  The "//" symbol is not a single separator, but it is actually TopLayer/MiddleLayer/BottomLayer and "//" in this case indicates there is not a middle layer present in the example.  The "H3D3" describes an understory stand composed of Hemlock dominant and Douglas-fir secondary dominant species, size class 3.  The "=" describes a medium stocked understory, and the "1940" is the Understory Birthdate year (ZY).  In summary, the example stand would be described as,  Douglas-fir Size class 4, one-bar stocking, birthdate 1800 overstory, with a Hemlock and Douglas-fir size class 3, two-bar stocking, birthdate 1940 understory.

    Date: unknown (change 1 of 12)
    Districts derived the information from several sources, (aerial photos, maps, written records etc.) and drew it onto mylar. The data then was digitized in AutoCAD and carried through ADS into MOSS by the BLM contractor.

    Individual tiles of FOI merged to a single coverage. XOI tiles also merged to a single coverage. Since some inventory polygons were depicted in both coverages, the XOI polygons with SUBJ_XOI values that matched a record in the FOI coverage SUBJ_FOI field were deleted from the XOI coverage. The remaining XOI and FOI were merged into a single feature class. All attributes were removed other than SUBJ_FOI the key field for linking to tables imported from the Micro*Storms application. The polygons were then dissolved on the field SUBJ_FOI to create a single record for that value. Some multi-part polygons may have been created as a result of this operation.

    This theme covers Western Oregon BLM-managed lands falling within BLM Salem, Eugene, Roseburg, Coos Bay, Medford, and Lakeview Districts.

    The polygons were checked against the original source for consistency. There are no node errors or open polygons. This theme was built with polygon and line topology.
