Who can use this process and what will it do for them?

This process can be used by field personnel responsible for designing, planning, evaluating and implementing National Fire Plan projects. Project planners can review effects-determinations early in the design of their project to see what activities may adversely affect species in their project area, and plan accordingly for either appropriate mitigation measures or to allocate the necessary time for environmental review.

Similarly, fire staff who may assist in designing certain fire-plan projects can review effects determinations to design projects that take into account the needs of certain species.

Biologists and botanists can incorporate criteria or conservation measures to reduce effects to species and use the documentation worksheets provided here to build their analysis file and administrative record. Completed worksheets and supporting documents can be used as the biological assessment for Section 7 consultation purposes.
