Accessing The BLM Network via a Laptop Using Cisco VPN and a High Speed Internet Connection

Procedures:

  • User turns on the laptop.
  • From home or a hotel/motel, user plugs in a high speed DSL connection into the laptop.
  • User chooses Denver UDP from the list of preconfigured Cisco connection entries, and then clicks on Connect.
  • User invokes ALT-CTRL-DEL to begin the login process.
  • The Cisco VPN software starts automatically. User clicks on the down arrow to see all pre-configured Cisco connection entries and selects VPN Denver (UDP).
  • User clicks on the Connect button.
  • After a few moments the BLM login screen appears. User enters in their userID in the following format: userID@blm.doi.net. User then enters in their network password.
  • User acknowledges the standard BLM warning message.
  • If the user elects to insert their Department of the Interior identification card, the Windows operating system will display a screen that asks for their PIN number associated with their DOI card.
  • If the user elects not to insert their DOI identification card, the user will be required to enter in their BLM network credentials (userID and password) in order to log into the BLM network.
  • User is now connected to the BLM network.
