Summary: The Salem District Bureau of Land Management (BLM) proposes to fall, buck and scale sample trees ("sample tree felling") during the 2008 calendar year to ensure the accuracy of timber cruises for future forest management actions. Trees would be felled only in areas that have been planned, marked and cruised for commercial timber harvest, and the felled trees would be a subset of the trees designated for removal in the timber harvest area. The proposed action would be implemented on the above listed timber sale projects on the Salem District as a precursor to timber sale contract preparation.
