Summary: The Cascades Resource Area Field Manager has made a decision to thin approximately 396 acres of 39-54 year old forest stands with an additional 2 acres of wet meadow edge treatment. Connected actions would include the decommissioning or renovation of existing roads, fuels management and the recruitment of snags and coarse woody debris. The Crab Race Timber Sale consists of 12 units of the proposed action detailed in the Crab Race Environmental Assessment. The EA and Finding of No Significant Impact were released for comments from May 08, 2013 to June 07, 2013. The proposed project is located in T. 11 S., R. 2 E., Sections 12 and 13, and T. 11 @., R. 3 E., sections 7 and 8 W.M. in Linn County, Oregon.

Summary: The Cascades Resource Area has completed the Crab Race Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact (EA). This EA is available for review. The three projects analyzed are: Project 1, Density Management Thinning - The proposed action is to thin approximately 460 acres of 39-54 year old forest stands. The project is located within Township 11 South, Range 2 East, sections 12 and 13; and Township 11 South, Range 3 East, sections 7, 8 and 9, Willamette Meridian. Project 2, Snag and Coarse Woody Debris Recruitment -- The proposed action is to selectively recruit snags and coarse woody debris by girdling and felling trees in pulses during the next 30-40 years within the Late Successional Reserve and Riparian Reserve Land Use Allocations in the Upper Crabtree Creek (6th field) Watershed. This watershed includes and surrounds the sections listed in Project 1. Project 3, Carolyn's Crown ACEC Road Closure -- The proposed action in to close 0.4 mile of road to motor vehicle traffic in the Carolyn's Crown Area of Critical Environmental Concern. The project is located in Township 11 South, Range 3 East, section 16, Willamette Meridian. The project areas are east of the City of Lebanon in Linn County, Oregon.
