Summary: The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Cascades Resource Area has made a decision to thin 439 acres of forest stands averaging 28-93 years old. Approximately 96 percent of these acres are in forest stands less than 80 years old. This project will be implemented as the Highland Fling Thinning timber sale. Other actions include: 86 acres of fuels treatment, 7 acres of road right-of-way clearing for 1.7 miles of new road construction, and 0.8 mile of road renovation. The project is located in T. 3 S., R. 3 E. section 35; T. 4 S., R. 3 E. sections 1, 21, 27, and 29 W.M. in Clackamas County, Oregon.

Summary: The Highland Fling Thinning Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact (EA) has been completed and is available for review. The proposed project is to thin approximately 720 acres of forest located on BLM lands within the Cascades Resource Area in Clackamas County. Connected actions would include: treatment to reduce forest fuel on approximately 370 acres; removing a failing log fill road crossing to restore the stream channel location; construction of up to 5.3 miles of temporary natural surface road; and renovation and maintenance of approximately 6 miles of existing road. The project is located on BLM lands within: Section 35, Township 3 South, Range 3 East; Sections 1, 21, 27 and 29, Township 4 South, Range 3 East; and Sections 21, 27 and 29, Township 4 South, Range 4 East, Willamette Meridian. The proposed action would be implemented with two timber sales: (1) - The Highland Fling Thinning timber sale, August 2010, covers all units west of Highway 211. (2) - The Highland Flung Thinning timber sale, November 2010, covers all units east of Highway 211.
