Finding of No Significant Impact DOI-BLM-OR-R040-2010-011-EA Planning Completed
The Thunderbolt Thinning and Hazardous Fuels Treatment Environmental Assessment considered three action alternatives for the proposed thinning of 1583 acres of forest stands 49 to 95 years old and creation of a shaded fuel break on 193 acres. The selected alternative, Proposed Action Alternative 3, will apply variable density thinning to stands in three timber sales: Big Thunder (668 acres), Thundering Herd (430), and Rolling Thunder (485 acres). In addition, approximately 6 acres will be cleared for spur right-of-ways to access the harvest areas. A shaded fuel break will reduce hazardous fuels and improve firefighting effectiveness in the event of a wildfire in the project area.
