Decision Record,Categorical Exclusion DOI-BLM-OR-R040-2013-0008-CX Planning Completed
The proposed action is to conduct pre-commercial thinning of 786 acres of stands approximately 15 to 40 years old. Thinning will increase growing space in overly-dense stands and brushing will occur where hardwoods and brush species are competing with conifers. Stands within General Forest Management Area (GFMA), Adaptive Management Area (AMA), and associated Riparian Reserve (RR) land use allocations (LUA) will be thinned to an average of 13 x 13 foot spacing selecting the largest, healthiest, best-formed conifers on 484 acres. Stands within Connnectivity (CON) LUA and associated RR will be thinned to an average of 13 x 13 foot spacing selecting the largest, healthiest, best-formed conifers while leaving hardwoods at 50 X 50 foot spacing on 172 acres. Stands within Late Successional Reserve (LSR) LUA will be thinned to an average of 16 x 16 foot spacing selecting the largest, healthiest, best-formed conifers while leaving hardwoods at 50 X 50 foot spacing on 130 acres. The attached maps show the units proposed for pre-commercial thinning.
