Project: Fallen Feline Salvage

Project Status: Planning Completed
Office Location: Roseburg
Resource Area: South River
NEPA #: DOI-BLM-OR-R050-2014-0002-CX  Categorical Exclusion / Decision Record
Document Publish Date: 2/12/2014
Summary: ***The Fallen Feline Salvage project was protested and the protest will be granted in part. Therefore, the Fallen Feline Salvage Categorical Exclusion and Decision have been rescinded effective September 19, 2014. The subsequent NEPA analysis and decision will be posted on the BLM website.*** The proposed action is to salvage trees blown down during 2012 and 2013 winter storms on Bureau of Land Management lands off of Wildcat Road (see Figure 1). Salvage harvest would remove down trees from within two thinning units that have a combined area of approximately 40 acres. In compliance with the 2013-15 U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Biological Opinion (Tails# 01EOFW00-2013-F-0200) salvaged trees would only be removed in upland areas. No salvaging would take place within the Riparian Reserves. Standing trees with snapped out tops would remain on site as snags and no standing trees would be cut unless they pose a danger to human safety. Snags or down wood existing prior to the 2012-2013 winter events would not be removed.
