Application for Quarry Site

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Prineville District, recently received an Application for Appropriation

of public land from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The requested lands would be used by Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) for the excavation and processing of materials to be used in the construction and maintenance of Federal-aid Highway System roads in Central Oregon. ODOT has prepared an Information Paper (PDF) on the subject, and their website has more detailed information on this project.

The lands requested, commonly known as Site N (map (PDF)), are located off Barr Road in T. 15 S., R. 11 E., section 13 and T. 15 S., R. 12 E., section 18, Willamette Meridian, and total 105.18 acres.

A 1982 Interagency Agreement (IA) (PDF) between BLM and FHWA provides procedures by which FHWA may appropriate public lands for use by the States for highway and/or highway material purposes. The IA procedures also include the process of review of the application for appropriation. (See the General Vicinity Map (PDF).)

FHWA complied with the National Environmental Policy Act as outlined in the IA and signed a Categorical Exclusion (PDF) on August 8, 2008.
