Each feature class or feature dataset is in Geographic (GCS) NAD83 unless otherwise noted
This theme shows the Wilderness Study Area (WSA) boundaries as inventoried in the mid-1980's and precisely defined in the Oct.1991 "Wilderness Study Report" and/or on USGS 7.5 minute quad maps. There have also been a few changes to WSAs since the 1991 report. WSAs are essentially roadless areas under BLM jurisdiction. WSAs have special management restrictions and priorities. WSA's are primarily used for resource management planning (most natural resource decisions are impacted by the existence of WSAs), Congressional inquiries (Congress may act on Wilderness designation in WSAs), public inquiries and education (special restrictions in WSAs may affect public land users). This dataset represents those WSA's that are within the John Day Resource Management Plan (JDRMP) boundary.
This dataset is intended for analysis in the John Day Resource Management Plan.
