John Day River Study Scoping Comments

Scoping for the BLM John Day River Study Environmental Analysis (EA) begins on July 16 and ends August 30, 2008. BLM is looking for your ideas on how to address campsite availability and boating encounters on the John Day River between Service Creek and Cottonwood. On peak use days there are more groups boating the river than there are available public land campsites, which forces people to share campsites or camp on private property. And on the busiest days, the number of boating encounters (other groups you see) may result in a "crowded" experience for some people. In order to comply with the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, we must set a use capacity and manage boating use within that capacity. We need to come up with a way to spread boating use more evenly throughout the season, rather than have spikes in use on certain days. What are your ideas?

Scoping comments may be submitted by mail, email, or by using the on-line comment form below. To be most useful, comments should be sent no later than the end of the scoping period.
