Why is the BLM Requesting Public Comment?
The BLM is requesting public input to further develop and design the identity for the Cline Buttes Recreation Area, using the broad management goals and allocations made in the Upper Deschutes Resource Management Plan as a starting point. To implement the general management direction in the UDRMP, the BLM, along with citizens and other agencies, will develop area-specific plans. The Cline Buttes area is the first of these efforts and is expected to be completed by mid to late 2007. The Cline Buttes Recreation Area plan will be a design for roads, trails, and access points, as well as vegetation management strategies for some 32,000 acres of BLM managed open space lands.
The large increase in population (throughout Central Oregon and also immediately adjacent to the Cline Buttes Recreation Area) has increased the need for better management and specific identity for the public lands in Cline Buttes. The high amount of recreational use and the interest in outdoor recreation opportunities (particularly winter season trail opportunities) from residents and visitors to central Oregon provide an opportunity to create and maintain recreational facilities that add to the quality of life in central Oregon while minimizing conflicts among public land users and impacts to natural resources |
