Summary: In September 2009, an environmental assessment (EA) for the Cove Creek Grazing Lease Renewal was completed and distributed for review and comment. In June 2010 and September 2011 a revised EA was posted to BLMs website to clarify several factors that were brought up during the EA comment period and points brought up in a protest of the withdrawn October 2010 Proposed Decision. A protest of the September 2011 Proposed Decision was timely received. A protest response and Final Decision has been made to implement Alternative 2. The Public Appeal period is within 30 days of receipt of the Final Decision.

Summary: The Ashland Resource Area is beginning the planning process on a proposal to renew the grazing lease on the Cove Creek grazing allotment. The proposed action would permit 49 cow/calf pairs (75 AUMs) to graze on 1,207 acres on a Medford District Bureau of Land Management livestock allotment for a term of 10 years. The season of use would be changed from May 1 thru June 15 to June 1 thru July 15. This alternative responds to concerns regarding impacts to riparian areas and plant communities within the allotment.
