| Summary: The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) proposes to salvage approximately 413 acres of BLM-administered lands in the South Fork Little Butte Creek Watershed. The Windy Soda Project would salvage trees that were wind thrown (trees uprooted or snapped off) during a high wind event in early January, 2008. Standing green trees are not slated for removal unless they were partially uprooted during the storm and/or are deemed an immediate safety hazard tree. Seedlings would be planted as needed to bring tree stocking to recommended levels for sustainable timber production. The proposed salvage project would be accomplished with one or more commercial timber sale(s). Fuels remaining after the timber salvage would be treated. Existing roads would be utilized for tree removal. No new road construction is proposed. Roads and drainage ditches would be cleaned of debris following salvage operations. The legal description for the proposed Windy Soda project area is: T. 37 S., R. 2 E., in sections 24 and 25; T. 37 S., R. 3 E., in sections 18, 19,29,30,31, and 32; W.M., Jackson County Oregon. | |
