Summary: The Althouse-Sucker Landscape Management Project is located on Medford District of the Bureau of Land Management administered lands approximately 8 miles southeast of Cave Junction. This project is part of the implementation of the Medford District's Resource Management Plan and is intended to produce commodities for local, Josephine County and regional economies, improve forest stand health and growing conditions, enhance terrestrial and aquatic habitat, and reduce fire hazards. The alternatives propose commercial thinning and structural retention harvest, fuel hazard reduction, young stand thinning, and restoration thinning for wildlife habitat enhancement. Under all alternatives, the project proposes post harvest fuels treatment, and stewardship contracting and biomass removal opportunities, enlargement of the Tartar Gulch Quarry, instream and riparian habitat enhancement, and noxious weed treatments.
