Summary: A decision has been made to implement the renovation of two designated day-use sites on the Rogue National Wild and Scenic River: the Hellgate Canyon Viewpoint and the Hellgate Bridge Viewpoint. This decision improves public safety and interpretive and educational signing, and also enhances the day users' recreation experience, while protecting the environment and the outstandingly remarkable values (ORVs) of the Rogue National Wild and Scenic River: natural scenic qualities, fisheries resources and recreational opportunities.

Summary: The EA analyzes the proposed renovation of two designated day-use sites, the Hellgate Canyon Viewpoint and the Hellgate Bridge Viewpoint. The purpose of this project is to enhance the day users' recreation experience and to improve public safety while protecting the environment and the outstandingly remarkable values of the Rogue River. The project lies within the Hellgate Recreation Section of the Rogue National Wild and Scenic River and follows management direction identified in the Rogue National Wild and Scenic River: Hellgate Recreation Area Recreation Area Management Plan of July 2004. This project is in conformance with our 1995 Resource Management Plan (RMP) and the Rogue Wild and Scenic River Hellgate Recreation Area Management Plan (RAMP). The proposed activities include 1) rebuilding the rock wall surrounding the parking area at the Hellgate Canyon Viewpoint, paving the parking area and adding interpretive resource information to the site; and 2) surfacing the Hellgate Bridge Viewpoint parking area and adding a rock wall to this site.
