Summary: Portions of the Slim Jim Timber Sale (OR110-TS05-13) and Healthy Murph Timber Sale (OR110-TS06-24) had mutual cancellations of the timber sale contracts in 2010. The Medford District is proposing to re-offer the cancelled portions of these two timber sales along with the Fizzy Stew Project for bid under the name Slim Timber Sale, so the treatments authorized under the Slim Jim Timber Sale Decision, Healthy Murph Timber Sale Decision, and Fizzy Stew Project Decision Record may be completed. The Fizzy Stew Project was not economical to implement via a stewardship contract tool. The Slim Timber Sale is 231 acres of commercial density management in the Late-Successional Reserve land use allocation under the Medford District's 1995 RMP and within the Late Successional Management Area land use allocation under the 2008 RMP. A Determination of NEPA Adequacy (DNA) reviewed the Slim Timber Sale and determined the action is adequately analyzed in the Slim Jim Project Environmental Assessmemt (EA#OR118-04-014) and the Revised Middle Cow LSR Landscape Planning Project Environmental Assessment (EA#OR118-05-022), and in conformance with land use plans. The decision for the timber sales will not become effective, or be open to formal protest, until the Notice of Sale appears in Grants Pass Daily Courier which is anticipated to appear June 30, 2011. To protest a forest management decision, a person must submit a written and signed protest to Glendale Field Manager 2164 NE Spalding Avenue, Grants Pass, OR 97526 by the close of business (4:00 p.m.) not more than 15 days after publication of the Notice of Sale. The protest must clearly and concisely state which portion or element of the decision is being protested and why it is believed to be in error, as well as cite applicable regulations. Faxed or emailed protests will not be considered.
