Summary: The Sampson Cove Forest Management Project Environmental Assessment (EA) is available for public review. The public review period ends on August 9, 2010. The 504-acre Sampson Cove Forest Management Project would thin trees in conifer forest stands on BLM-administered lands in the Walker Creek, and Upper and Lower Emigrant Creek drainages of the Upper Bear Creek Watershed. Forest management would be accomplished using a combination of timber sale and service contracts, and would also include unit-specific activity fuels treatments and pre-commercial thinning. About 500 feet of new road construction is proposed, in addition to an estimated 45 miles of existing roads that would be used as haul routes and improved as needed to meet BLM standards. This Environmental Assessment will provide the information needed for the responsible official, the Ashland Resource Area Field Manager, to select a course of action to be implemented for the Sampson Cove Forest Management Project.
