NEPA #: OR-116-05-01  Documentation of NEPA Adequacy
Document Publish Date: 10/16/2009
Summary: This Determination of NEPA Adequacy documents an internal review process and conclusion regarding the adequacy of NEPA for the redesigned Bald Lick Timber Sale. The original Bald Lick Timber Sale was offered for sale in September of 2005; protests were received. Prospective purchasers chose not to bid on the timber sale. The Bald Lick Timber Sale Notice was rescinded, nullifying all protests. Since that time, there has been ongoing dialogue with those living in the vicinity of the Bald Lick Landscape Project Area to make progress towards designing a timber sale that would be more socially acceptable while meeting BLM's resource objectives as documented in the Bald Lick EA. The newly designed timber sale, which is a much smaller subset of this original project will be offered for sale. A Notice of Sale for the redesigned Bald Lick Timber Sale will be published in Medford's Mail Tribune Newspaper on or around October 21, 2009. The publication of the first Notice of Sale for the Bald Lick Project establishes the effective date of the decision, for the purpose of initiating a protest period, for those portions of the Bald Lick project to be implemented through a timber sale. Any protests of the Bald Lick Timber Sale must be made within 15 days of the publication of the Notice of Sale in Medford's Mail Tribune newspaper.
