Forestry Pilot Videos
In December 2010, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar set in motion a plan to apply and study the principles of ecological restoration, as suggested by Drs. Norm Johnson and Jerry Franklin.
The pilot projects are being conducted on BLM lands within the Coos Bay, Roseburg, and Medford Districts.
On February 17, 2011, the BLM along with Drs. Norm Johnson and Jerry Franklin, held a Moist Forest Workshop to discuss the following principles as they relate to the projects:
- Natural stand development and the structure and function of Pacific Northwest coniferous forests
- Disturbances and the nature and role of biological legacies of disturbance
- Nature and the importance of successional (pre-forest) ecosystems
- Silvicultural applications of this science including variable retention regeneration harvesting
