Myrtle Creek Discussion

In December 2010, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar set in motion a plan to apply the principles of ecological restoration, as suggested by Drs. Norm Johnson and Jerry Franklin, on BLM lands within the Coos Bay, Roseburg and Medford Districts. The BLM, along with Drs. Norm Johnson and Jerry Franklin, will be holding a series of meetings, workshops, and field trips to discuss the pilot projects and learn more about the principles of ecological forestry as applied by Drs. Johnson and Franklin. The public is encouraged to attend these meetings.

Medford

Public Meeting/Open House

The Applegate Partnership & Watershed Council, the Southern Oregon Small Diameter Collaborative, and the Medford District BLM are hosting a public meeting/open house to share information and engage the public in the design and implementation of the Pilot Thompson Project.

Public Field Trips

Anyone interested in what an active timber harvest operation looks like?

The implementation of the first Pilot project is underway and public field trips to view the harvest operations for the Pilot Joe timber sale have been scheduled.

Please RSVP by calling Stephanie Kelleher at 541-618-2205 (field trips will be limited to 15 people per trip, so call ASAP to reserve a spot).

Field Trip #1: Tuesday, February 28, 2012. Limit 15 people. RSVP required.

Field Trip Details (All Dates)

Time: 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Location: Meet at the Cantrall Buckley Park entrance at 9:00 a.m.

Details: Bring a lunch or snacks and your own beverages. The field trip may involve rigorous hiking on uneven terrain. Please wear the appropriate footwear and bring plenty of water. Everyone will be required to wear a hardhat (provided by BLM). We will be asking you to carpool as much as possible, but will be providing some government vehicles for additional seating.

Roseburg

Public Meeting

The Roseburg District will hold a public meeting to provide information about the EA on April 12, 2012, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Roseburg District Office.
