Summary: The Remote Control Timber Sale was sold on August 28, 1998 after the issuance of a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI). The environmental impacts of the project were analyzed in the original Sandy/Remote Analysis Area EA (EA# OR128-96-21, revised 7-14-98). Since that time the sale has been part of several lawsuits that have delayed the award of the sale to the high bidder. These lawsuits broadly concern: impacts of projects to Port-Orford cedar (POC), ambiguous language pertaining to the Aquatic Conservation Strategy (ACS), and the removal of the Survey and Manage provision from the Coos Bay District Resource Management Plan (RMP).

The environmental assessment analyzes a no-action alternative and a proposed-action alternative.
