Environmental Assessment DOI-BLM-OR-B050-2010-0040-EA Planning in Progress
On August 18, 2010, the BLM, Burns District Office, distributed and provided a 30-day public comment period for Environmental Assessment (EA) DOI-BLM-OR-050-2010-0040-EA, dated August 18, 2010, analyzing a No Action Alternative and two action alternatives for the Warm Springs Herd Management Area Wild Horse Gather. The EA analyzes the potential impacts of gathering up to 361 horses and removing 265 of these excess wild horses in the Warm Springs Herd Management Area south of Burns, Oregon. The BLM has subsequently added a fourth alternative to the EA analyzing the application of a 2-year Porcine Zona Pellucida (PZP-22), or similar, vaccine to approximately 43 horse mares. At this time, the BLM is soliciting comments on the additional alternative of injecting mares with PZP-22.
