ARRA Project (WBS)#: LDTDF0680000
Project Title: Shotgun OHV Trails Development
Index Map Locator #: 11
State: Oregon
Unit: BLM - Burns District
Description:
This project will implement a second phase of Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) trails management in the Shotgun Trails OHV Area. It will locate, design, construct and improve approximately 5 miles of trails which will add to the 24 miles of currently designated trails. It will allow for the development of a staging area with amenities such as a bathroom, tables, parking and an OHV rider training area. These developments are needed to help meet the continued growing demand for OHV areas/use. Recent changes to Oregon law, which requires training for all riders, have increased the need for additional training areas.
Benefits:
Development of more OHV trails/staging area will better meet public demand for this recreation activity. The project will also allow for better design of structures/facilities/trails to more effectively manage erosion and potential impacts to nearby water quality. Volunteers and youth will be involved in the development and completion of the project as well as contractors and suppliers.
