ARRA Project (WBS)#: LDTDF0650000
Project Title: Row River Trail Culvert Replacement
Index Map Locator #: 10
State: Oregon
Unit: BLM - Eugene District
Description:
This project will replace up to five culverts under the Row River Trail (National Recreation Trail), a 17 mile paved bicycling, walking, equestrian trail. The trail is managed cooperatively with the Corps of Engineers, and the City of Cottage Grove, and is used by thousands of people each year. Using the trail is a favorite recreation activity for local neighbors, but is also internationally known. The trail is located on an abandoned/renovated railroad bed that was acquired by BLM about 15 years ago.
Recovery Act Funding:
These funds will be used for project design and construction/installation.
Benefits:
The culverts targeted for replacement are located at the bottom of deep fills (15-30 feet deep) and are creating fill-bank instability, trail grade depressions, and paved surface cracking which can lead to unsafe conditions for recreationists. By replacing these culverts we can maintain water quality, prevent erosion, and ensure a safe facility for the many people who enjoy using the trail.
