ARRA Project (WBS)#: LDRBC0180000
Project Title: Districtwide Culvert Replacement
Index Map Locator #: 9
State: Oregon
Unit: BLM - Eugene District
Description:
This project will replace 11 culverts at 3 different sites (Buck Creek, Esmond Creek and Hawley Creek) on the Eugene District. Culvert sizes range from 24 to over 60 inches in diameter. All culverts are 40 or more years old, on BLM managed/owned roads and either have failed, or are failing which limits access to BLM lands by neighbors, permittee holders, contractors, the general public, recreationists and BLM staff. The condition of the culverts also limits fish passage for the federally listed Coho salmon in the Siuslaw River watershed, as well as resident fish.
Recovery Act Funding:
BLM will contract with the Federal Highways Administration to complete the design. Construction/installation will be completed with private contractors.
Benefits:
These projects will ensure access for multiple users on BLM roads. They will also improve fish passage for federally listed endangered species for approximately 6.3 miles, while reducing potential sedimentation and erosion that would impact water quality.
