ARRA Project (WBS)#: LDRBC0150000
Project Title: Crushed Rock Stockpiles
Index Map Locator #: 40
State: Oregon
Unit: BLM - Roseburg District
Description:
Roads throughout the BLM Roseburg District are used to access to public lands for recreation, fire control, resource management and both public and private timber. Maintaining over 1,000 miles of these roads often requires resurfacing with crushed rock and having a supply stockpiled is needed for cost effective and efficient repair. The purpose of this project is to stockpile crushed rock strategically at different locations of the roseburg BLM District, so that the road maintenance crew can quickly respond to resurfacing needs. The location of sites was determined by the BLM with input from the Douglas Forest Protective Association and existing right of way holders, and Douglas County staff.
Recovery Act Funding:
Three separate contract have been awarded to local rock pit operators--two in the fall of 2009, and one in the spring of 2010. Work began in January, 2010, and will continue through the summer of 2010. About 20 to 30 jobs will be created over 12 to 18 months.
Benefits:
Resurfacing high priority roads will provide for all weather use of the road system for a variety of uses while protecting against sediment delivery to area streams and rivers from degraded roads.
Updates:
This contract has been awarded. More information about contract for this project can be found at https://www.fbo.gov/, solicitation number L09PS01399.
