ARRA Project (WBS)#: LDRBC0120000
Project Title: National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center Parking Lot Chipseal
Index Map Locator #: 58 & 59
State: Oregon
Unit: BLM - Vale District
Description:
The National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center (NHOTIC) is located approximately five miles east of Baker City Oregon. The average annual visitation to this facility is nearly 80,000 people arriving from locations across the nation.
The current parking areas, site roads, and trails have not been resurfaced for nearly 15 years and are showing signs of fatigue resulting in large longitudinal and transverse cracking, which are occurring throughout the site. Many of these cracks are approaching gap distance of two to three inches and more in some places.
This project will consist of chip sealing all existing asphalt to include roads, parking areas, and work/shop sites (420,212 sq. ft.). Also included will be crack sealing, shoulder backing, fog seal, and striping.
Recovery Act Funding:
This project will take place in the fall of 2010 and take approximately four to six weeks to complete and employee six to 15 people throughout different phases of project.
Benefits:
Repairing cracks and sealing the parking lots and site roads will slow deterioration and add six to eight years to the life expectancy of the pavement surface.
