Description:

The Prineville Fire Offices and Cache is a Central Oregon Fire Management Service (COFMS) project. COFMS is a Service First organization between the BLM and USFS (Deschutes and Ochoco National Forest) fire organizations. After performing a joint BLM/USFS space management study for the various units in COFMS, the Central Oregon Executive Team decided the organizations would be best served if the Rivers Division (BLM/USFS), Prairie Division (BLM/USFS), and Prineville Hot Shots (USFS) were co-located together at the USFS Lamonta site. The Lamonta site was chosen because it had enough space to construct a new building outside of the flood plain, there are existing underutilized buildings that could be renovated to house some of the functional needs thus reducing the size of the new building (e.g., enclosed engine bays, storage areas), minimal impact to government services during construction, and it is on government land.

This ARRA project will design a new Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) building that will meet the LEED silver criteria and will provide offices and fire cache facilities for co-locating the BLM and USFS fire crews. The building will replace at least two aging structures currently located within a floodplain, have existing structural issues, and are at the end of their design life.

Benefits:

The Rivers and Prairie Fire Division with agreements with several area fire departments supports wildfire suppression to the central Oregon urban interface. The area includes about 3 million acres of federal and state managed lands. The area is home to approximately 250,000 people including 12 designation resorts, and 104 recreation sites along 3 wild and scenic rivers.

The Prineville Hotshots are a national fire fighting resource and are mobilized across the nation to fight wildfires.
