Description:

The National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center is located approximately five miles east of Baker City, Oregon. This facility is one of two Oregon/Washington BLM Interpretive Centers. The average annual visitation to this 32,000 square foot facility is nearly 80,000 people arriving from locations across the nation.

Currently, this facility utilizes seven split system heat pumps to heat and cool the building. The combined airflow rate between the seven split system heat pumps is 49,200 cubic feet per minute. Very close tolerances in temperature and humidity control are required for proper preservation of exhibits and historical displays. With an aging heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system nearly two decades old, many of the original heat pumps have reached their life expectancy. The heat pumps are consistently failing and/or requiring repairs annually.

Recovery Act Funding:

Phase I of this project is anticipated to take two months to complete and will employee two to three people. Phase II will take four months to complete and will employee three to four people. Phase III will take three months to install and will employee four to six people.

Benefits:

This project will complete a multiphase Task Order using an “indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity” contract. The Ground Source Heat Pump Replacement architectural and engineering work will be accomplished in 2009, and the installation of the selected system will be accomplished in 2010.
